May 11

Second day in Bahia de Kino went great. We started off this morning with a hike up to a church, in which we gained insight on the islands surrounding the area and got amazing information on things about the shrimp industries and how they have affected the ocean life here in Mexico. Afterwards, we had a geology activity where we mapped out the surrounding islands and learned about their names in English translation. To finish up the afternoon, we went to the beach for a few hours and made some amazing sand sculptures, went seashell hunting, played in the waves, and bathed in the sun. Around 4, we came back to camp and bonded with each other through games. Everyone has been having a great time so far and we are looking forward to the next days to come.

We are in Bahía de Kino! Getting though Border Patrol went nice and easy. We first stopped in Magdalena de Kino to see Father Kino's grave and the Chapel of San Francisco. After walking around the square, we stopped to eat some delicious food at Restaurante Monarca. We then headed over to Hermosillo to do our grocery shopping. We soon arrived in Bahía de Kino around 7 pm. for dinner, we had Tamales then walked to the beach. By 10 pm, everyone was asleep.

Auf Wiedersehen!!

Another great trip comes to an end!

Today we had our Goodbyes.  The school hosted a goodbye breakfast where Claudia and Mrs. Wagoner gave positive and encouraging words about the importance of culture exchanges. Tony Razo who created our travel shirts presented them to the Principal, Vice Principal, Heidi and Claudia at the school for a good bye breakfast.

We also had our Goobye BBQ with the host families and students.  It was held near the Nidda River in a beautiful open field where families brought different dishes.  Our students presented their host families with hand made thank you cards, showering them with gratitude for the excellent time they've spent together.  It was filled with laughter, reflections and goodbyes.
