At our check in today...
1. This group travels well, and isn't hesitant to jump right in to their "new" lives.
2. Some attended school yesterday, even though they didn't have to.
3. Everyone feels very welcomed by their host families.
4. Paxton wonders why she practiced German when her host family's first language is Greek.
5. Lindsey does not enjoy non-alcoholic beer, but tried to choke it down to be polite at the dinner table.
6. Sylvia loves her lavender room.
7. Justin attended a Boy Scout meeting last night which did not remind him of his own meetings.
8. Cody and Justin have not actually talked to their parents yet. (Hopefully they have by the time this post is published).
9. These kids are amazing!
10. Traveling takes more out of me than it used to when I was a student!
Arriving
As we arrived in Germany and deplaned, there was a quick 1 minute complaint session about traveling in confined quarters for such a long time. In essence, we had a 12 hour flight, because in Chicago, we had precisely enough time to run to our gate and get on the next plane. These kids are troopers, after our 1 minute session was over, we truly moved on. Next was going through customs, and I think the agents had a good time with our group. Lots of smiles and nervous laughter, and a palpable excitement. While waiting for baggage, we talked about last minute stuff including a codeword for any strange feelings about their host families. No one used the code word, and pretty soon all were off with their new families.
