Woke up this morning refreshed and ready to start the
day! It is super humid here but
everyone is adjusting well to the climate! Today we visited 2 different schools in Suchitoto, and I was
really surprised to see the difference in the quality of them compared to one other.
We had the opportunity to go
to several classrooms and interact with the students. Kyle got to play with a division 2
professional soccer team as goalie after our visit to the school. Although they
scored on him, he took it with pride and we could all see this pretty much made
his day. Everyone, everywhere is
playing futbol!
Everyone seems to be so happy here even as Sister Peggy says
that the people are supported by the fact that life goes on, and they do not
deny their pain with what they have gone through with the civil war so vivid in
their memories. It would be nice
to see this more in the U.S. It just seems like we all take so much of what we
have for granted. This afternoon we
also visited Cihuatan which is an ancient Mayan archeological site, this was
quite impressive and beautiful.
Tomorrow we are going to go to a massacre site from the
civil war, that happened not long ago.
We will travel by boat across Cuscutlan which is a lake, actually a
reservoir close to town. Many of
the stories that Sister Peggy has told us have been impactful and remind me of
how we need to live with our eyes open and live each day to make knew memories
and cherish what we have. It is
now beginning to rain and I look forward to a restful nights sleep. Excited for tomorrow, can’t wait to
continue my first international journey!
